Many visitors to Bangkok aren't sure whether they should tip after a massage, or how. This guide explains how tipping generally works in Thailand so you can feel comfortable at any venue.
Is Tipping Expected?
In Thailand, tipping is common but not compulsory. At massage venues, guests often leave a small tip for their therapist if they were happy with the service. It's a way to say thank you, not a fixed charge.
Tip in Cash
If you do tip, cash in Thai baht is the easiest way. Card machines and QR payments usually cover the session price only, so keep some small notes with you.
Give the Tip to the Therapist
Hand the tip directly to your therapist at the end of the session, rather than adding it to the bill at the counter. That way you know it reaches the person who looked after you.
Know What's Included First
The best way to avoid confusion is to choose a venue that publishes its prices. Then you know the full session cost in advance, and any tip is simply your choice. Ask the venue beforehand if you're unsure what's included.
Paying at Wonder Massage
Wonder publishes its full prices online. Payment is in Thai baht cash, WeChat Pay or Alipay. Credit cards are not accepted. Sessions start from ฿2,000 for 40 minutes in a shower room.
